The writer of the article who faxed me the idea of this illustration was an acknowledged anchorperson in Japanese TV news programs.
時は2414年。場所はデンマークの地下墓所。世界人口の平均寿命は100歳を越えているが、人類は未だ死を克服できていない。ひとりの青年が、最近、右腕を失った。地下墓所へとやってきた彼は、今は義手となった右腕で、頭蓋骨を手に取る。頭蓋骨は、幼い日に遊び相手になってくれた道化師ヨリックのものだ。貴い者も、卑しい者も、いずれは死に、土へと帰る。それは今も昔も変わらない不変の事実。青年は義父の計略にかかり右腕を失ったが、死は免れた。自らの死に直面し、それを免れた今、青年は来し方を思い、今、義父に復讐を挑む覚悟を固める。
とある課題のために一晩で仕上げた。水彩＋色鉛筆。100％のアナログ描き。
I drew this illustration overnight, using colored pencils and watercolors.
The motif of this illustration is the Gravedigger Scene in Hamlet.
The time is A.D.2414.
Hamlet who recently lost his right hand comes into the underground cemetery in Denmark.
He finds a tomb capsule labeled with a familiar name:Yorick.
Yorick was a jester and his playfellow of his early days.
He takes Yorick’s skull by his mechanical hand and meditates on death.
